FAQ of Premedical Students

Q: When should I apply?
A: You can submit applications at any time.

Q: How do I apply to PULSE?
A: There is an application available on this website. Complete it and email it to PulseRice@gmail.com with the subject line reading: Last Name, First Name Application.

Q: Do I have to be a student at Rice to be in PULSE?
A: No. This program is intended for all undergraduate level premedical students in the vicinity of the TMC. If you are a student who does not attend a university near the TMC, you will be responsible for your transportation to the TMC and to Rice for group meetings.

Q: Are there any notable transportation options available to me?
A: Yes. Even though many of the hospitals and clinics are walking distance from Rice University, the Metro bus system offers all-day access to TMC (the 87 bus in particular). A Metro Q card can be obtained by Rice students at the Cashiers Office. Rice university also provides a free shuttle into the medical center (the TMC/BRC bus).

Q: I can only shadow doctors during the summer break, or during a particular semester, can I still apply?
A: Yes. You decide how long you would like to be a member of the program. You can also rejoin later when you have more time to devote.

Q: What does it mean that I will be choosing how many hours I will be shadowing?
A: One aspect of PULSE that makes it unique is that students get to choose how long they will shadow. The physician you are paired with will send you times that they have available for you to shadow. You keep in contact with them on a weekly basis and promptly tell them when you are coming to observe.
